Yepa yepa! Andale andale! Arriba arriba!
Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all Mexico, probably was a great Margarita lover. As well as an agave tequilana lover. His jaunts, at double the normal speed, were surely due to some secret. And we believe that this “secret ingredient”, which gave impossible speed to this funny Mexican mouse, was hidden in a plant: the agave tequilana, indeed, also called “blue agave”; this plant is one of the first economic resources (if not THE first), of the Jalisco state, whose capital is Guadalajara, not by chance the birth town of the quick Speedy Gonzales with the yellow sombrero. From the blue agave Tequila is obtained, a Mexican spirit, drunk all over the world. And Tequila is the basic ingredient of the Mexican cocktail par excellence: the Margarita, a cocktail that tastes of Messico & Nuvole, of Pancho Villa & Revolucion, of horses & guns, of deserts & cactus, of salt & lime.
The Margarita, once ready, is served in the typical glass called sombrero.
So that everything seems to add up, also in the Gonzales theme.
And it’s not over yet.
The first episode of Speedy Gonzales dates back to 1953 and was titled “Cat-Tails for Two”;
the Margarita is the most famous Mexican drink, and gives life, quite often, to romantic episodes called “Cock-Tails for Two”.
